- Hosted Grafana, they provide everything great about Grafana, but take on the operational toil for our customers.
- Helping teams like User Essentials, Dashboards, Edge and Observability in building user-facing features.
- Other teams in Grafana Labs to extend Grafana’s capabilities, from plugin architecture to dashboards as code.
- The Community, to improve and polish Grafana.
- Improved navigation for both search and listing items through the API. We’re working together with product management and the teams that provide frontend experience to ensure that whether you have one dashboard or twenty thousand dashboards and a gazillion alerts, finding what you’re looking for is only a keystroke away.
- Providing an internal structure for the Grafana project to increase consistency and modularity across the codebase and let subsystem owners be confident in knowing which parts of the project fall under their domain.
- Replacing libraries (internal and external) that are hard to debug and are known to cause bugs.
- Improving Grafana’s own observability story, making sure that our logs, errors, traces, metrics, and anonymous usage stats are useful to both our users and developers.

Golang Job Details
This is a fully remote position and we're considering candidates in the Americas Eastern Time zones.
Grafana Labs is the company behind Grafana, an open source dashboarding tool for visualizing and analyzing metrics. It's commonly used for infrastructure and application monitoring, but we've also seen installations to monitor things like beehives, power-plants, or even ambulances. Grafana's mission is to democratize metrics: users can create dashboards that help them get insights into how their applications behave, enabling them to iterate, take action and improve faster. Commercially, Grafana Labs sells enterprise support plans and has a hosted metrics/logs/traces offering.
We are a family- & pet-friendly company; many of us take care of someone, both humans and fur-kinds. We also consider ourselves a remote/distributed company- something we have been doing for years now (even before the pandemic!). So, even if you are located near our office in Stockholm, working from home is both common and encouraged.
About the Backend Platform Squad
We’re currently focused on ensuring the longevity of the Grafana project by adapting our API and storage engines for many autonomous teams. We work on ensuring that Grafana itself is observable, has the logging necessary to make any bugs shallow, and can efficiently run in installations serving tens of thousands of users. Our team is essential to Grafana as an Open Source project. We do a fair bit of issue triage for the community. We’re working on setting internal standards and leading by example to ensure that everyone working on Grafana’s backend has a strong sense of support from the platform.
In general we support a number of people and teams with being the maintainers of the Grafana API and the database backends. Some of the teams we work closely with are;
Who We Are Looking For
You are comfortable working in a remote-first company; communication is key. For us, working together means being collaborative, friendly, kind, and respectful. We operate by consensus, you can contribute to a discussion but then commit to the team decision.
You are eager to learn and grow. There is a lot of room for growth and development, and the team has quite a lot of knowledge to share for those who are wanting to learn.
You enjoy working on complex solutions – Grafana is a highly technological solution and has avid followers who rely on it every day and care deeply about their workflows.
You enjoy being part of the community. Community is part of our core, and interacting with the community is a day-to-day thing for us. At the same time, you know how to recognize ideas and solutions that bring the biggest value to them and have the biggest impact on their experience.
You approach development holistically. The team owns the full life cycle of our code; from writing design docs, to looking at community feedback, and integration testing. We appreciate engineers who enjoy looking at the big picture, and also notice the details of the brush strokes.
You have some experience with operating your code, and the intricacies thereof. Since a lot of operators and developers use our software, having some grounding in both of these spaces really helps us with building better software for our users.
You’ll be joining a social and chatty team with a lot of personality. We value kindness and patience with each other highly to create a safe environment. We try to meet up multiple times a year on offsites, company retreats, and conferences.
